Rules and procedures for updating the LEIF-homepage

1.     All updated information/files should be sent to the LEIF Webmaster for posting so that there is control over what appears on the site. If this turns into a bottleneck in the future we should discuss giving out authority to more web administrators.

2.     Material sent for posting should be:

·       (If it is more than a single file) put into a main directory and compressed with standard compression software (zip for PC and gzip for Unix). This will ensure that no files are lost etc. They can then be sent as an attachment to the responsible person for posting.

·       Thoroughly checked locally using a web browser to ensure that all images, links etc. work. Only local paths should be used for linking within the document.

·       Checked for both Netscape and Explorer compatibility. Material incompatible with Netscape (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel etc.) should also be prepared in PDF format for general accessibility.

·       Dated at the bottom of the file with the date of last update and the person (name and e-mail) who made the update. The new date can appear automatically upon posting if you use some special java script code as for example used on the LEIF homepage (index.html). Software likes this could be maintained in the protocols link under special software.

·        In .jpg or .tif format in the case of images and should not be extremely big in size to facilitate fast viewing. Interlacing may be used. Images should allow for their more detailed viewing if necessary in a separate larger frame on the click of the mouse on the smaller sized image.
