The format of LEIF newsletter contributions should
follow the example of previous newsletter publications. Articles are expected to
be around an A4 page in length (without including the length of the figures) and
may include up to a maximum of 3 images/figures. Special formatting will be
indicated with html commands. In more detail contributors should keep in mind
the following basic rules:
1.
All contributions should be written using only ASCII characters, i.e. in
a text file (Not Word or not even html). This facilitates the direct inclusion
of the article in the preformatted LEIF newsletter. Converting Word files into
html with the Save as Web option is not very efficient as a huge amount of
unnecessary html commands are generated making the editing of the text close to
impossible.
2.
All subscripts and superscripts can be indicated by using html language
commands such as … for subscripts and
… for superscripts. For example the ion boron of charge
state 3+ appearing as B3+
3.
All links should be given in plain ASCII characters
using html language notation, where the text that marks the hyperlink is placed
in the dots between the html commands <a href=”URL“>….</a> and
URL is the required link. The following common types of links are given as
examples:
4.
All pictures or figures should be separately submitted
as attachments in one of the usual web formats, i.e. jpeg, jpg, tiff etc. Figure
captions should not be part of the figure! Memory intensive bitmaps should be
avoided at all cost since these take too long to download.
5.
The precise appearance of the submitted article
(position of figures, fonts, etc.) will be up to the editor to arrange according
to the evolving format of the LEIF Newsletter.
6. These rules will be constantly evolving in a process of refinement as more experience is gained with running the Newsletter and new software products become available.
